YIS utilizes the South Carolina Children's Book Award nominees to promote a school-wide reading program. Students reading these books are exposed to a wide variety of literary genres, including at least one biography and one nonfiction book. Students who participate in the CBA program find themselves reading books that they would never have selected from the shelves! The YIS reading program also helps students remain focused on reading throughout the school year, from beginning to end. Creating lifelong readers is one of our goals of this program as well.
