The following update was sent via email and SMS text to all district parents on December 16, 2020:
With Winter Break starting after our half-day of remote learning on Friday, December 18, we want to provide several important updates to district protocols that will begin when we return in January. We understand that any changes directly impact our community, so we want to announce them now in order to allow all involved time to prepare and plan.
Remote Learning January 4th, 5th and 6th
All district schools will have Remote Learning Days on January 4th, 5th, and 6thupon the return from the holiday break. These days will be structured like the current remote learning days in December, with live, synchronous instruction as well as offline activities for students, following the same schedule that is in place today. Students should login to ClassLink and Canvas in January for directions from their teachers.
These three days will allow nurses and administrators to conduct contact tracing following the Winter Break before students return to campus and ensure all schools have adequate staff in order to operate. The first day back on campus for students will be January 7, 2021, but instruction and attendance will be taken January 4, 5 and 6 during the remote learning days.
Updates to Instructional Model: Effective January 7th
When we return on January 7th, we will continue to follow our modified Hybrid model of instruction.
Students in grades PreK – 6th grade will attend school face-to-face on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with Wednesdays being SEE days for extra time and extra help. These Wednesdays will be used to provide additional cleaning of our schools as a part of our enhanced safety protocols.
Grades 7 – 12 will continue on the Cohort model, with Cohort A attending face-to-face on Mondays and Tuesdays and Cohort B attending face-to-face on Thursdays and Fridays, with Wednesdays being SEE days.
Updates to DHEC Guidelines: Effective January 7th
When students return in January 7th, York School District One will be following the recently updated quarantine and isolation guidance provided by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
It is very important to note how quickly COVID-19 is spreading in York County at this time. In order for schools to remain open, we must all do our part to reduce the spread. Please make good decisions over the holidays with the size of your gatherings, use of masks in public, and continue social distancing. SC DHEC has some holiday tips posted on their website.
We hope you and your family have a safe and relaxing Winter Break.
