Virtual Choice Program Application Window
Virtual Choice Program Applications will be accepted February 23, 2021 – March 8, 2021 for the upcoming 2021 – 2022 school year. The application will be accessible on the York School District’s website. Please review the application before submitting and ensure that all information including the email and mailing addresses are correct. An email confirmation will be sent to the email provided once the application is submitted.
Virtual Choice Program Eligibility
To apply for the Virtual Choice Program, students must be enrolled in YSD1 schools and in good standing regarding current progress in respective courses, attendance, and demonstrated successful completion of Semester 1 of the 2020-2021 school year. Students must have reliable internet access. Students in Grades K – 2 must have an appropriate device. Coursework cannot be completed on cell phones or tablets. Students in Grades 3 – 12 will be provided with a device. An application must be submitted for each child wishing to be considered for the Virtual Choice Program.
Items to Consider when Applying
Students will be required to attend an on-site campus for state and district required testing throughout the school year. Students will not be able to opt out of state or district required testing. Students and parents will be required to attend on-site orientations and student progress meetings throughout the school year. Special services such as ESOL, Merit, and Special Education will be provided and scheduled as needed.
Choice Selection Process
The selection process will begin immediately after the application window closes on March 8, 2021. Applicants will be reviewed and noted eligible for the program based upon the student’s current progress in respective courses, attendance, and demonstrated successful completion of Semester 1 of the 2020-2021 school year. Applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance or denial into the Virtual Choice Program on or before March 31 using the email address provided in the submitted application.
Choice Program Availability and Lottery
The number of slots for each grade-level of the virtual program will vary based upon resources and staffing allocations. The current 2021-2022 available seats for each grade-level are listed below:
Kindergarten: 25 seats
1st Grade: 25 seats
2nd Grade: 25 seats
3rd Grade: 25 seats
4th Grade: 25 seats
5th Grade: 50 seats
6th Grade: 40 seats
7th Grade: 40 seats
8th Grade: 40 seats
9th – 12th Grade: Courses will be offered based upon student requests and teacher availability
In cases where there are more eligible applicants than slots available, a random, computer-generated lottery draw will be conducted. Those that are not selected by lottery will be placed on a wait list and contacted when slots become available.
