Ms. L. Lowry

My name is Ms. La Toya Lowry, and I have been a teacher at Jefferson Elementary School for 24 years! I taught third grade for four years, and I've been in second grade for twenty years. I love second grade! I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina; a Master of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College; 30+ hours in Technology Integration from Winthrop University; 2011 District Teacher of the Year for York School District One; and National Board Certification in Generalist/Early Childhood.

When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family, going out to eat, watching movies, napping, decorating, and gardening. My dream is to travel, travel, and travel some more! I am excited to be a part of the Jefferson family!

Mrs. Shamy

This will be my 18th year teaching at wonderful JES.  I grew up in the York School District and have had the privilege of teaching with those who once taught me.  I enjoy frequenting the beautiful orchards and farms and planting flower gardens in my yard (still working on that green thumb)!  My husband, Tony, and I have been married for 10 years and have two sons.  My oldest will start a new year at YIS in 5th grade and my youngest will be in 2nd grade this year.  Our fur baby, Lucky, will be turning 16 years old.  You will find our family on the soccer fields during the fall and spring seasons as well as cheering on the Carolina Panthers on football Sundays.  I am passionate about teaching and committed to helping students discover, develop, and nurture their own interests and passions.  My students' well-being will always be at the forefront on my mind.  In addition to achieving academic excellence this school year, one of my goals is to provide your child with skills and strategies to equip him/her to face life's challenges with compassion and kindess.  Thank you for entrusting me with the awesome privilege of being your child's teacher!  I look forward to an open line of communication this school year and urge you to reach out with any questions, concerns, and celebrations!  Working together, I am certain we will provide your child with the opportunity to "Let Their Light Shine" this year at JES.

Mr. Courtwright

Hello! Welcome to Mr. Courtwright’s 2nd-grade class (2021-2022). I was originally born in Hookstown, Pennsylvania (Here We Go, Steelers!). But I have lived in Clover, SC, my whole life. This is my Second-year teaching, and I am excited to get the year started! My mission throughout the year is to enhance your child’s educational experience but also for your child to get 1% better each day. I expect 100% effort and confidence upon arrival to the classroom each day. Students should come into the school building with the mindset that they are a champion!
