Superintendent Finalists

The York School District 1 Board of Trustees, by vote at the board meeting May 6th, approved three candidates as finalists for the position of Superintendent. 

The board made its selection of the three finalists after a thorough review of applicants and interviews with semi-finalists on April 28-30, 2025. The finalists will be in the district on May 13, 2025 to tour schools and meet with staff.  There will be a Community Meet and Greet that evening at 5:30 pm at Harold C Johnson Elementary School to allow parents, staff, and community members to have an opportunity to meet the three finalists.

2025-2026 Academic Calendar Approved

At their December 2024 meeting, the York School District One Board of Trustees approved the 2025-2026 Academic Calendar. The modified balanced calendar includes more evenly distributed breaks throughout the year, providing opportunities for rest, enrichment, and academic support.

SC School Report Cards Highlights

York School District One proudly announces its outstanding performance in the 2023-2024 South Carolina School Report Cards, reflecting the district’s commitment to Elevate to Excellence. With the dedication of its educators, seven out of eight schools in the district demonstrated notable improvements in overall ratings, marking significant progress toward meeting academic standards and improving student outcomes.

WBTV Hurricane Hugo lineman teaching next generation of utility crews through one-of-kind program

Clover School District and York School District 1 have a partnership through York Technical College in which students are trained to be Utility Line Workers and can go straight into the workforce upon high school graduation. Companies such as Duke Energy, Comporium, York Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Red Wing Shoes sponsor this program and provide equipment for students.

As a part of featuring the 35th Anniversary of Hurricane Hugo, WBTV News recently spotlighted Mr. Don Hamrick who was a ULW during Hurricane Hugo.  Mr. Hamrick has since retired and now trains our ULW students. We are thrilled that "Mr. Don" is being recognized for his lifetime of service to others and greatly appreciate his dedication to his work and our students!

WCNC Mental Health Stronger Connections Grants
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Lisa Spangler, Coordinator of Special Projects and Grant Writer, and Chad Carper, Director of Student Services, York School District One stands out as the sole local school district to be awarded with the Stronger Connection Grant. This substantial grant, totaling $175,000.00, will be instrumental in facilitating the appointment of two additional mental health therapists.
