EOCEP

The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end-of-course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  EOCEP are administered in the last twenty-days of each semester as determined by the district instructional calendar to students enrolled in Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 1, English 2, and United States History and the Constitution.

EOCEP Testing Reminders:
-Parents should avoid making appointments and arranging other out-of-school functions on these days to prevent unnecessary absences.

-Students should get plenty of rest the nights before testing and arrive on time to school on test days. Testing will begin first thing in the morning.

-Testing will be administered online via a Secure Browser on YSD1 Chromebooks or in school Computer Labs. These assessments must be administered to students face-to-face on a YSD1 campus. You may view the Online Testing Tutorial and Training as well as other helpful resources at https://www.york.k12.sc.us/departments/instruction/testing-accountability/eocep

-During testing, students may not be in possession of any electronic device (including, but not limited to, cell phones, headphones, or smart watches). All electronic devices will be collected before students begin taking the tests and returned only after all students in the test session have completed the test.

In conjunction with York School District One Board policy, South Carolina Code of Law, South Carolina Department of Education Regulations, York School District One has established procedures for student participation in state assessments. It is a Testing Violation for a student to be in possession of any electronic device at any time during testing. If a student is found to have any electronic or other communication device during a state test the device is to be confiscated and will be directed to the School Testing Coordinator, District Testing Coordinator, and school administration for investigation and disciplinary action.

College Entrance Exams

Section 59-18-325 of the Education Accountability Act (EAA) specifies that districts must offer students in their third year of high school after their initial enrollment in ninth grade (Grade Eleven) the opportunity to take a college entrance test from a provider secured by SCDE. The SCDE has secured both the ACT® and SAT®. These assessments are offered at no cost to the student. Students may use the results of these assessments to apply to college or to enter careers.  Results will assist students, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors in developing individual graduation plans and in selecting coursed aligned with each student’s future ambitions, promote South Carolina’s Work Ready Communities initiative, and meet federal and state accountability requirements.

Students are not required to take either the ACT® or SAT®. A Parent Form is provided for the parent or guardian of each eleventh grade student to sign and indicate which test the student will take (ACT® or SAT®), or whether the student will not take either test.

ACT® - The ACT is a timed multiple-choice examination that includes the following tests: English, Reading, Math, Science, and Writing.

SAT® - The SAT is a timed multiple-choice examination consisting of the following tests: Reading, Writing and Language, Mathematics and the SAT Essay. SCDE requires districts to include the SAT Essay exam in the SAT administration.
