A school resource officer (SRO) is a certified law enforcement officer, under SC Code of Law 5-7-12, who is permanently assigned to a school or a set of schools.  The SRO is specially trained to perform three roles:

    1. Law Enforcement
    2. Law Related Counseling
    3. Law Related Teaching

The SRO is neither a security guard nor a school employee, but is a law enforcement officer who is present for parents, students, faculty, and staff.
