My name is Mrs. Parker and I teach the gifted and talented students in the MERIT program here at Hunter Street. This will be my 22nd year in the classroom. I have been teaching at HSES for 16 years of those years! Before that, I was a teacher in Ohio. I went to college at The University of Akron. When I became a gifted and talented teacher, I was inspired to work for my Master’s in Gifted Education. As the years passed and technology became more prevalent in education, I discovered a passion for integrating tech into the classroom, so I returned to graduate school for my Specialist’s Degree in Educational Technology. I love helping others—students and teachers learn new tricks and apps that enhance learning and make it fun.

I love to travel, and my husband and I will soon have opportunities to visit our two boys in Texas and Japan! We love to visit state and national parks to hike and take in nature. I think South Carolina has the most beautiful parks around. When I’m at home, I love backyard birdwatching with my six cats.

Hello Huskies!

My name is Joe Burton and I am excited to join the HSES family this year as the school counselor! After 5 years as the At-Risk Coordinator at York Middle School I am excited to be a part of the Hunter Street legacy. In preparation to be a counselor, I attended Winthrop University and Liberty University where I studied Psychology and Education. While my background is in youth services, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and working with at-risk students, I am looking forward to the fun of working with elementary students and watching our Huskies grow! When I’m not in “Mr. Burton mode” I live in Rock Hill with my wife, Kim, of 15 years and our two old dogs. I enjoy spending time with friends, watching football, movies, traveling, attending concerts, and writing when I have free time.

All students, parents, and staff are welcome to come by my office AKA The Treehouse for a chat. The door is always open and the phone/email are always on, so just let me know if there is anything we can do to help you and your family!

Eric Johnson

Junior Faculty from Winthrop University

Hello Hunter Street family! I am Eric Johnson and I am a member of the junior faculty for the fall 2021 semester. I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education from Winthrop University with plans to graduate this coming spring. One music teacher drastically changed my life and my attitude towards learning in high school, sending me forward as a believer in teaching the whole child through instrumental music. I seek to develop in my students the confidence and self-esteem to go be effective, happy and healthy citizens wherever they end up in life, taking lessons from music class with them. I believe that the arts are essential to the well-rounded individual, and that performing arts help people understand more about themselves and others as they work together.

I love to cook, play chess and read in my spare time. I am also a huge Nintendo fan. The Legend of Zelda in particular is a series that has inspired me for years.

It is my honor and pleasure to work with the staff and students at Hunter Street Elementary. I wish to everyone a safe and exciting 2021-2022 school year.
