Mrs. Kauffman
I am Ms. Kauffman. I am originally from Dayton, OH and have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Coastal Carolina University. I have a cat named Nugget who I've had since she was a kitten. She has a mark on her forehead in the shape of a chicken nugget--hence the name. My favorite book is House Rules by Jodi Picoult. I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, shopping, and playing with my animals. This year I am most excited about creating amazing memories with my fantastic colleagues and students. I wish for my students to enjoy our class so much that they truly look forward to coming to school every day!

Mrs. Shamy
This will be my 18th year teaching at wonderful JES. I grew up in the York School District and have had the privilege of teaching with those who once taught me. I enjoy frequenting the beautiful orchards and farms and planting flower gardens in my yard (still working on that green thumb)! My husband, Tony, and I have been married for 10 years and have two sons. My oldest will start a new year at YIS in 5th grade and my youngest will be in 2nd grade this year. Our fur baby, Lucky, will be turning 16 years old. You will find our family on the soccer fields during the fall and spring seasons as well as cheering on the Carolina Panthers on football Sundays. I am passionate about teaching and committed to helping students discover, develop, and nurture their own interests and passions. My students' well-being will always be at the forefront of my mind. In addition to achieving academic excellence this school year, one of my goals is to provide your child with skills and strategies to equip him/her to face life's challenges with compassion and kindness. Thank you for entrusting me with the awesome privilege of being your child's teacher! I look forward to an open line of communication this school year and urge you to reach out with any questions, concerns, and celebrations! Working together, I am certain we will provide your child with the opportunity to "Let Their Light Shine" this year at JES.

Mrs. Scott
My name is Kara Scott. My husband Levi and I just moved our family from New York to York this spring. We have four amazing children, Kiera, Leah, Silas and Sawyer. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. There, I had the opportunity to travel & volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico working with children and fixing up their schools. I also spent a semester studying at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Currently, I am in my final weeks of completing my Master’s Degree in Teaching Elementary Education.
My family and I have our own farm here in York where we spend most of our time. We have two dogs, Oliver and Douglas, a cat named Rosie, a miniature horse named Dolly, chickens, and a whole herd of rescue miniature donkeys! My other interests involve traveling to the beach, gardening, cooking and of course, rescuing animals.
One of my goals for this year is to make sure that our classroom is another place to call home. I want your child to know their worthiness, and most importantly, feel safe in all aspects so that each day they are ready and excited to learn. I am beyond excited to be joining the amazing team of educators here at Jefferson Elementary and look forward to the days to come!
