A little bit about myself…

My name is Keith McSwain and I am a lifelong resident of York School District One.  I graduated from Winthrop University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.  I began my career as a teacher at W.C. Friday Middle School in Gaston County N.C.  After five years of teaching in Gaston County Schools, I returned to York School District One as a teacher and coach. For the past 17 years I have served as Principal from 2006-2010 at Harold C. Johnson Middle School and from 2010 to present at York Intermediate School.   Go Cougars!

York Intermediate…what a great place to be!  I am very excited to continue serving the students, faculty, and families of YIS.  The 2023-2024 school year is my 27^th year in public education (All in York School District ONE!).  I graduated from the great Clemson University and began teaching Math at YCHS and YJHS for 12 years.  During those teaching years, I also coached football, basketball, tennis, and golf.  I received my Master's in Administration from the state university in Columbia in 2009 and began my work as a school administrator in 2010.

My wife (who also teaches in York) and I have two amazing daughters, one who is at YCHS and the other is in college.  I am a York native and graduate of YCHS which allows me to have a unique understanding of our community's needs and strengths.  Our district has so many great opportunities for our students to better themselves.  I thoroughly enjoy getting to know our great students and helping them grow academically and socially.  I look forward to this being a great year for our students!

Welcome to YIS!  I am Elisa Hutto Thompson, and I have been an educator for 29 years!  I have taught 1st, 4th, and 5th grades in Chesterfield and York, SC. For the last 11 years, I have had the privilege to serve as an administrator at York Intermediate School.  From Winthrop University, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1995. I also hold a Master's from USC and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University.

I am married and the mother of a college freshman and 10th grader!  When I am not working, I am an avid reader!  So, when you see me, let's talk about books!
