Duke Energy & Catawba Nuclear Station donate STEM kits & school supplies

Students working with STEM kits On January 25, 2019, representatives from Duke Energy and the Catawba Nuclear Station donated STEM kits and school supplies to our district as a part of the company's annual service projects in conjunction with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The STEM kits will provide challenging and engaging engineering activities for students at all of our elementary schools, giving students an opportunity to explore career fields and work on teamwork while solving tasks.

The Duke Energy team members also donated school and classroom supplies to the district. These supplies will be put in the hands of students and teachers throughout the district, resupplying classrooms and helping teachers continue their classroom work.
On hand for the donation were Board of Trustees members Austin Dawkins (also employee at Catawba Nuclear Station) and Maria Duncan, Superintendent Kelly Coxe, Interim Director of Elementary Education Patricia Allen, Jefferson Elementary principal Mattie Hughes and teacher Lena Brewster, and 4th-grade students from Jefferson.
