York School District One Swirl Logo

Update: Sunday, March 15, 2020, 7:15 PM

As you may have heard, the South Carolina Governor announced the closure of all South Carolina schools beginning Monday, March 16 through the end of the month, with the possibility of extending the closure for a longer period due to concerns about COVID-19. In accordance with this order York School District One will be closed beginning Monday, March 16.  This includes the cancellation of all after-school activities, sports, and programs.

The strength of our school district is our community. We recognize that this situation may be unsettling. We have been working to prepare for this scenario so that student learning and meal service can continue in an alternative format.

Beginning tomorrow, our students will not be attending school in person. The district has created alternative learning plans for students and we will be providing parents with more information on this program in the next few days.

We have already made arrangements to provide school meals for all students in grades 3K - 12th grade. Beginning this Monday, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM we will have a drive-through meal pickup opportunity for our school community.  All families with students in YSD1 can go to York Comprehensive High School and pick up a school meal for each student. This will continue throughout the mandatory school closure, daily Monday-Friday. Pickup will occur off Lincoln Road. We will provide signage throughout the school campus.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, we will also start delivering meals for students via our bus routes. Additional information will be provided Tuesday regarding bus stops and estimated delivery times.

As part of our alternative learning plan, teachers will begin communicating with parents and students via Remind and Canvas.  More information will be coming via email in the coming days.

It is our goal to provide you with accurate and timely information as quickly as possible.  Because of the rapidly changing nature of this situation, we ask that you continue to check our website at for updates. We will also continue to communicate on our social media platforms and via email during the course of this closure.

Again, the strength of our school district is our community. These are unprecedented times and very tough decisions are having to be made. Please know that the health and wellbeing of our students, employees, and the community, remains our priority.

We appreciate your patience as we finalize educational plans and navigate the uncertainty of this situation. As you have questions or concerns, please email us at or leave us a message at 803-818-6010 and we will respond as quickly as possible.

Additional Information on COVID-19 novel coronavirus

COVID-19, more commonly known as the Coronavirus, has continued to spread overseas and there have now been confirmed and presumed positive cases in the United States. Government agencies are working to prevent or contain any cases identified in the U.S. Our school district continues to monitor the situation, and we are working closely with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) and the South Carolina Department of Education to stay informed of any developments of confirmed cases in the state. We will implement recommendations and follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SC DHEC, and the South Carolina Department of Education as they are determined.
