Cassidy Valerino Named Principal of York Middle School

York School District One Board of Trustees Approve Administrative Appointment

Principal at York Middle School; will begin role July 2021.

 

At the regularly scheduled meeting of the York School District One Board of Trustees on June 8, 2021, the Board of Trustees accepted the administrative recommendation for the position of Principal at York Middle School. Valerino will assume the role of Principal on July 1, 2021.

Cassidy Valerino was named the Principal of York Middle School. Cassidy Valerino is currently serving as Assistant Principal of York Middle School and replaces Mr. Richard Ball, who will serve as the York School District One Virtual Program Coordinator.

 

Following the Board meeting, Cassidy Valerino stated “I am thrilled to be a part of the growth and success of York Middle School and the York community. I’m committed to do my very best for our students, staff, and families of York Middle School!”

 

A veteran educator with over 20 years of experience, Valerino began her career in 2000 as an elementary school teacher, teaching 2nd and 3rd grades. As a classroom teacher she was named Science Educator of the Year at her school.

 

In 2005 Valerino transitioned to a program teacher then assistant principal role in the Rock Hill School District. She coordinated academic interventions, enrichment cluster programs, curriculum aligned with academic standards, and used effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.

 

Valerino became principal of Northside Elementary School of the Arts in Rock Hill School District in 2011. As principal she continued implementation of Professional Learning Communities into the school culture and climate, focusing on student achievement. She selected highly qualified teaching and support staff members to support an environment promoting strong academic achievement.  She also encouraged and initiated a school improvement planning process focused on curriculum and instruction.

 

In 2020 Valerino joined the York School District One family as an Assistant Principal at York Middle School.  Since joining York Middle School, she supported educational programs tailored to student needs, provided professional development on the use of data to inform instruction, and assisted with restructuring the daily schedule to provide additional support for students.

 

Valerino earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Winthrop University, a Master's Degree in Education from Columbia College, and a Master’s of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.  She was a member of the Olde English Consortium’s Grow Your Own Leaders program. She holds certification in elementary and middle level administration and was a National Board Certified Teacher.
