District Hosts ESOL Night for Families Across the District
On Thursday, September 30, 2021, York School District One’s Parenting Partnerships and Student Services departments partnered for an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) night for families in our district community. The program served 23 families and 37 children at this event. Families met their child’s ESOL teachers and received a box of pizza for dinner and a Food Share box of fresh food to take home. Families received information from multiple community organizations, including Parenting Partnerships and Family Resource Center, York County First Steps, Atrium Health, WIC, and HOPE (who put together the Food Share boxes). Additionally, SC DHEC was on site for a vaccination clinic, along with Spanish-speaking nurses to offer language support, answer questions, and administer COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots.
It was a festive and jubilant time for our families and staff and a great chance to connect our schools, families, and communities together while celebrating our ESOL population.
